African Sambistas

The African Sambistas are a Bristol based samba performance group who combine dance and drumming to bring energy to any event they play. Crowds love getting down to African Sambistas, who perform at festivals, parties and even weddings!

Ambling Band

“brass and pink collide to create a rich cacophony of sights and sounds”

The Ambling Band is based in Bristol and play in the south west of England and on the continent. They have been terrorising people on the street for the past 34 years, bringing joy and tears to those who watch and hear them!!

Bristol Samba

Bristol Samba is a community band of drummers and dancers playing energetic Brazilian-based music for celebrating and dancing. The samba band and dancers perform at festivals, parties and events throughout the year, raising the roof and creating a vibrant atmosphere.  Bristol Samba promotes, supports and develops percussion-based music and related carnival arts, particularly in our local community. The band has been performing for over twenty-five years, since its formation under the name Bristol School of Samba.

Brass Disciples

Make sure you check out the Brass Disciples, a 15+ strong community street band based in Bristol, playing a lively mix of well-known tunes in the style of the great New Orleans brass bands. With an inspiring array of instruments – the band boasts 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 3 alto saxes, 3 tenor saxes, 3 baritone saxes, tuba and drums – the Brass Disciples give you no option but to boogie.

Cécile

Cécile is a singer-songwriter based in Bristol, UK. Her debut EP Ten Past Twelve was released in 2015 and is the fruit of collaboration with musician/producer Jack Cookson.  Cécile sings in both French and English with a voice that silences rooms, accompanying herself with gentle nylon string guitar arrangements, resulting in a harmonious and emotive texture similar to the likes of Kate Rusby and Leonard Cohen. She has recently toured East France and has been performing in the UK throughout the year, both headline and support.

Corky

Possibly the world’s best Scrumpy &Western acoustic rapper is furthering the cause of agricultural hip-hop and dropping knowledge on the Parade-goers this year.  It doesn’t matter if you are from the streets of the South West, or you just love the stylings, Corky’s  Ginster’s Paradise and (Dairy Farming) is Harder Than You Think, will swell your heart and have you drinking up thy cider in moments,

Salvation Army Band

Active in the community of Bedminster for over 130 years, no Lantern Parade would be complete without their vital addition to the event.

We love our 2017 sponsors!

Each year we are able to put on the Lantern Parade, thanks to the vital help and support from our sponsors and supporters who help us in so many different ways.

The Bristol Bordeaux Partnership is the voluntary association which manages the official twinning with Bordeaux in France in partnership with Bristol City Council.  Anyone can join the BBP and get involved in their activities which cover a broad range of cultural, social, commercial and educational initiatives. The twinning was started back in 1947 and was the very first post WWII Anglo French link. There are now hundreds of such twinnings including several near Bristol with counterparts near Bordeaux. The idea behind the link was to get to know our “enemies” and make friends with them to avoid another war. It was about friendship, reconciliation and building a stronger Europe. Over 30,000 people have taken part in schools exchanges over the years and it continues today. In South Bristol the BBP works with six local primaries helping to deliver fun French by bringing over trainee teachers from Bordeaux University and this scheme has been going for over ten years. This year there are many high profile and also community based celebrations for the 70th anniversary of both the twinning with Bordeaux and also with Hannover. The BBP would like to thank Quartet for its financial support.

Bristol Energy offers gas and electricity for domestic and business customers across Bristol, the South West and nationwide. Owned by Bristol City Council, our profits will be reinvested back into Bristol communities – meaning our energy, and our customers’ bills, can make a positive difference.

We were set up to make things fairer, helping people across the country to save money. Two thirds of us spend hundreds of pounds more each year than we need to on our energy bills, yet it only takes a few minutes to switch. By keeping our prices low, we can be part of the change.
